Plain Picture Parade turns 10 years old

Posted: December 23rd, 2007 | Author: | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: | No Comments »

it’s the 10th birthday of Plain Picture Parade. It all started the summer of 1995 when I was in Sweden with my family and we stopped at a used CD store. I had heard some chatter on alt.swedepop mailing list about this band called the Cardigans. I found a CD single “Carnival” for 10 SEK at that shop. I couldn’t stop listening to it. I then bought the Life album in Sweden as well and as we were heading to Malmö, I heard that there was a festival and the Cardigans were part of it. We rushed to the hotel and rushed to the festival but just missed seeing them play. I was addicted!I opened up a Geocities account at http://www.geocities.com/CollegePark/Quad/2567. I taught myself basic HTML and just put up some pictures of the Cardigans. As a small community began to grow, I started gathering more pictures, more CDs, more videos, and it just steamrolled from there. I soon had to open up 2 more Geocities accounts to hold all the pictures as I up to 30 MB of stuff. In 2001, I registered the domain name “cardifans.com” and moved my page there. I also purchased Adobe GoLive and couldn’t believe how fast and quickly you could update the entire site. I then moved to Dreamweaver which I use now. You can see some old snapshots here, here, here, and hereI saw the Cardigans for the first time in February 1997 in Providence, Rhode Island. I thought for sure I would get to meet the band but Loevfool had hit and the US was Lovefool struck. I did get to meet Magnus which was very cool. Then they came to Dallas, Texas in May 1997 where I got to meet Nina and get her autographI then saw them at Roskilde in 2003 and in Malmö in October 2003, and finally in Las Vegas in 2004.What a great ride it’s been. Thanks to everyone who has sent me pictures and has supported my efforts. Long live the Cardigans.
